Spring Clean – how to spruce up the house after winter

How to get your house ready for the brighter and warmer days.

Spring is a time for new beginnings in nature and this translates to our homes just as well. With the darker days behind us, it’s time to make room for flowers, linens and sheers. Gone are the days of the big blankets (or at least, we hope they are…).

If you are looking to find some quick ways to spruce up your home after winter and are considering a Spring clean, keep reading.

One of the easiest ways to update your home after winter is to declutter and reorganise, before you even consider renovating or redecorating.

Moving some of your accessories or smaller furniture from one room into another will also help you gain a new perspective and it can sometimes even transform a room entirely, simply by introducing some of your treasures from another space.

Piles of books from cold winter nights may have piled high and reorganising them onto some shelves clears the floor or coffee table and creates that much needed space and airiness. Shelves can be styled in beautiful ways. Below you will see some examples of how a shelf can become a work of art, displaying books, accessories and personal treasures, as well as artwork to break it up.

Metal accents can provide a great focal point and range from geometric shapes and ornamental decorations to vases, photo frames and plant pots. This, combined with books and other treasures from travels can make for an interesting bookcase display.

More traditional bookcases, with all shelving at the same level can provide a sense of grounding. Displaying artefacts, books and travel treasures alike is a great way to style these shelves. This can be a mix and match and does by no means have to be too organised but can be more eclectic.

For more contemporary interiors, an organised and often more linear ad structured display can be just right.
This Hamptons inspired interior showcases vases, ornaments and books often stacked, rather than lined u on the book shelves. It creates a clean look and highlights the interior colour of the book cases.

Another modern twist on the classic bookcase, with plenty of art, plants and minimalist displays on each shelf. This transforms even a traditional style shelving unit in an instant. By pulling out individual pieces to highlight on a single shelf, the large bookcase doesn’t appear cluttered but well organised.
